Work Place Productivity

If you spend all day staring at a computer screen, it can be hard to stay focused and engaged. We all know that headache that comes from the glare of the screen, how your eyes sting from staring at the tiny words all day.

If your office is full of people it can make matters worse. A lot of bodies means a lot of body heat. This warm, stuffy atmosphere can easily make you feel drowsy, and in need of a nap. Working outdoors is a fantastic remedy, but alas, we can’t just hurl our desk and computer out of the window.

One solution is to open a window to get some air to move through the office. Vertical blinds will help reduce the glare of the sun and keep you cool. The colour blue is supposed to be good for increasing productivity and can create a calm, and focused environment.

Plants can help oxygenate a room, and can provide a change of scene from the monitor in front of you. It’s important for your health to keep moving and exercise often. Unfortunately bosses don’t usually like treadmills in the office… but you can walk the extra long way to the water cooler. Or use the toilets on the next floor up.

Turn that dash to the coffee machine into a competition…

If you are pondering life, the universe or just the spreadsheet you’re working on move your eyes away from the screen. Constantly looking at the same depth range and screen glare can actually damage your health. It’s important to look at things at different distances if you can.

Brainstorming and creative corners are becoming more and more common places in office environments. They can provide a welcome respite from the usual monotony of office work. They can add to relaxation, team building and increase productivity. Pitch the idea to your bosses and give it a try.
