How do we really feel about our homes?
We at Wooden Blinds Direct recently surveyed 2000 people from across the UK on how they feel about their homes. The results are shocking; mainly that more than 70% of us don’t like where we live! We thought we’d share some more of the key findings here…
Top areas that people dislike about their home:
- The Kitchen
- Main Bedroom
- The Bathroom
- Living Room
- The Back Garden
Top reasons people give for not improving their home:
- I can’t afford it
- The things I want to change are too big, so I keep putting them off
- I haven’t got time
- I don’t know where to start
- I’m not good at DIY
Nearly half of everyone we asked admitted to arguing with their partner over what to change or improve about their homes.
Top causes of those arguments:
- How much money to spend
- Whether to get a professional in to do some work
- Colour schemes
- Whether something really needs doing
- What furniture and furnishings to buy
We also asked for people to comment on why they weren’t happy with their home… Some of the answers raised eyebrows here in the office:
“It’s a dump”
“I have a new neighbour who likes to bang doors”
“The area has gone downhill”
“It’s a very weird neighbourhood in the south west”
When we asked what would have to change before people could be happy in their own homes:
“Get rid of the mentally ill b***** who lives beside me”
“I need to convert the spare room to a home cinema”
“My driveway is not big enough to park four cars”
“IT DOES NOT HAVE A GARDEN”
And when we asked what’s stopping people from changing things for the better:
“My husband doesn’t want to do things”
“My husband needs to make his mind up about it!”
“My ex says he has a claim on it, so I’d rather save to move than spend money on it”
“We are stuck here whilst my mother-in-law still lives”
