Creating a relaxing space at home

Our home is the one place where we feel most at ease, the one place where any worries you may have don’t enter with you. But it is inevitable that you will have to fight the odd stressful day.

So no matter how big or small your house is, why not focus on one part and create a relaxing environment. It can be a creative corner, your place to power nap, meditate, read a book or just simply relax.

Start by tidying up, it may sound obvious but clearing that clutter will help you relax and too many things scattered around will escalate stress.

Small changes will make a huge difference because making this space right for you will help you relax. Most of the time we fill up our corners with old magazines, letters and hangers, and it makes our rooms look smaller.  Now is the time to start recycling and visiting the charity shops. It might be worth using an under-bed storage facility which will disguise the items you have nowhere else to place.

Ideally, personalising a space will make it friendlier so if you have some great memories create a collage with photographs.  You can also have images of the sea as nature boosts our positive sides. If you still have room then create a sofa from pillows or use large bean bags.  Enhance your room by adding colours which psychologically make you happier. Use colours such as blue and green because they remind us of nature.  If you don’t want to paint or re-decorate your room then buy throw-over blankets, curtains, pillows or rugs in those colours.
