Christmas Lights Across the UK

Fri 12 Dec 2014 admin

With Christmas on the way, the whole country is getting festive by decorating their houses and putting up their lights. Councils up and down the land are getting everyone in the Christmas spirit, but just how many of us splash out on decorations, and how much do we spend? We polled 1000 people across the UK to find out! And what did we find?

The UK has an estimated 2.64 million homes and 44.4% of us plan to externally decorate your houses for the holiday season. With each house on average spending £22.70 a year, this means we’re looking over twenty six million pounds spent across the country just putting up our Christmas lights!

The Midlands houses our most festive residents, with 56% in the West and 58% in the East putting up their Christmas lights this year. Yorkshire and Scotland need a little cheering up, however, as they both come in at the bottom with just 35%.

London seems to be the place to be for Christmas decorations, with 46% of people decorating their houses and they also come in as the biggest spenders with £159. Interestingly, London appears to be the bright-spot of the South as their South East and West neighbours come in towards the bottom of our results. With only £78 (West) and £80 (East) spent over the last five years, London is spending a little over their combined efforts all by itself!
